Our mattress is completely removable thanks to the side zippers that integrate its 6 parts, so it can be easily washed in the washing machine (without temperature and spinning). It is also foldable, so that the parts can not separate from each other while sleeping. It has a Velcro closure to keep the mattress in place when folded.
