WeatherTec 3000/4000 - waterproof system
The waterproofness of a tent is measured by the so-called water column. If a tent has a water column of 3000/4000 mm*, it can hold a water column of 3/4 meter* on its surface before water penetrates. The UK Ministry of Defense classifies a water column of 800 mm as waterproof.
Coleman uses polyethylene (PE) floor panels, which are relatively heavy but offer guaranteed water protection. PE groundsheets are ideal for family and activity tents where light weight and small pack size are not essential.

The water column provides information about the material tightness. To determine the millimetre value, 10 cm of fabric is stretched under a measuring cylinder and the cylinder is filled with water from above. The limit value at which water droplets press through the material is the maximum water column. In Germany, a tent outer material is considered waterproof from 1500 mm.
