Berger Absorption Cool Box A40
Maren K.
Test report from 29.09.2020
How long could you test the absorber cooler A40?
„The cooler was used at the beginning of the summer every now and then to weekend trips with the camper by us. Most recently, however, in our summer vacation for 14 days during our tour of Germany.“
At what temperatures did the test take place?
„The first time the box was used was on the hottest day of the year so far, at 37 degrees. In the subsequent uses, it was in use at "normal" temperatures between 25-28 degrees.“
Where did you use Berger cooler?
„Actually, it should go together with box to Croatia, because of Corona we have then but decided for Germany. This summer, the temperatures of the two countries were similar. During our tour through Germany, we stopped at various stations. E.g. at 37 degrees on a camping site in Haltern am See or at 25-28 degrees on a camper site in Carolinensiel at the North Sea. At all locations, the box was in continuous use.“
How positive was the first impression of the absorber cooler before the test?
„When we unpacked the box was the first thought, whether it would probably fit through the camper door. Since we do not have a garage on the camper, we have to carry it inside. But it turned out that it fits through the door and can ideally stand in the aisle behind the seats or under the table.“
How good do you find the workmanship?
„The cooler is absolutely high quality workmanship. There are no complaints here. The lid is provided with a rubber seal all around, so that no cold is lost. It is robust and also cleaned in no time.“
How satisfied are you with the space available in the cooler?
„The space is more than sufficient for 2 people. You could easily accommodate food and drinks for two more people. For info, the cooler provide space for all bottles of a case of beer.“
How satisfied do you feel with the cooling performance of the cooler?
„The cooler keeps what it promises. It cools 20 degrees below the outside temperature. At 37 degrees outside temperature, the interior still has 17 degrees, but if you cool down the box in advance at home, you can manage quite well. Overnight, the box can always recover and cool down a bit. On such hot days, you should perhaps not necessarily perishable food stored in it. If it is protected from the sun, it can manage a few degrees cooler. We couldn't notice any difference in the cooling performance in all three operating modes. The cooler is absolutely silent, which is a huge advantage. You can even make ice cubes or freeze water ice with the cooler. The cooler comes with an ice cube box that fits extra on the cooling element. This doesn't work at over 35 degrees during the day, but it does at night. Via the control panel, the temperature can be regulated steplessly and so you can adjust it to the day and night temperatures
It should be emphasized that the cooler is equally cold on all corners and sides. So the cool is distributed evenly. There are no "warm spots".“
How do you like the visual appearance of the cooler?
„The cooler is plain in two colors (silver and gray). It is not only high quality, it also looks high quality and fully meets our taste.“
How do you rate different connections for operating the absorber cooler?
„We have had the box plugged into the 12 volt outlet while driving, plugged into electricity at the campground, and even plugged into gas on a beach day. All three modes work fine and are self-explanatory to connect. A control panel under a flap is located at the rear of the box. There you simply select the operating mode and connect the appropriate cable. The cables are located at the back. There are two extra arms where they can be wound up.“
How do you perceive the price-performance ratio?
„Since the cooler keeps what it promises and can be put into operation via three different connections, it is also worth its price.“
Overall impression:
„Our overall impression of the Absorber cooler is very good. We would buy it again at any time and also recommend it. One remains absolutely flexible through the different operating modes. We often stand on simple pitches without supply. With the cooler we remain self-sufficient. Especially at high temperatures, we always have problems with the built-in refrigerator. The cooler will therefore be our constant companion from now on. The box fits us perfectly, because it can be placed, for example, at the rear on the bike rack or protected from the weather under the camper fits. It is absolutely reliable and can even serve as a side table or short seat. It is very roomy, silent and cools evenly. We have them now partly at home in operation to cool times quickly a few cold drinks for the announced visit.“
