Automatic reload | Protection against overcharging the battery |
Product description
The correct battery charging is ensured by the VOTRONIC Automatic Chargers, which are equipped with the latest charging technology and designed for all commercially available lead-acid batteries (see chapter on charging technology). For the correct handling of the batteries in daily operation, the peripheral devices of VOTRONIC are used, which work in the background and provide automated charge control and battery monitoring.
In motor homes, boats, emergency vehicles, etc., the batteries must provide power even when the vehicle is stationary. Therefore, these vehicles usually have several batteries installed, which are used separately for driving and standby mode.
A distinction is made between starter and supply battery(ies). As the name implies, one battery is responsible for reliably starting the vehicle, while the other(s) is responsible for supplying power to the electrical devices in the vehicle. To ensure that each battery circuit operates reliably and that the vehicle's electrical concept works, various devices are used to control charging while the vehicle is in motion.
The VOTRONIC StandBy-Charger is used for automatic recharging and charge maintenance of the starter battery or the additional battery, if the mains charger, the solar charge controller or the generator has only one charge output. The device can be easily retrofitted by simply connecting it between the on-board battery and the starter battery or the on-board battery and the auxiliary battery without having to change the existing wiring.
If, for example, the mains charger is in operation and charging the on-board battery, the second battery (start battery or additional battery) is also charged with a small part of the charging current, depending on the state of charge. This charge retention works automatically and can be recognized by an increased voltage level of the second battery. An overcharging of the second battery is impossible, because the charging voltage is lowered by at least 0.6V and the charging current is limited to 3A (24V variant: 2A).
