Brief description
When you talk to RV drivers about Scandinavia, many click their tongues. It is an absolutely popular travel destination - in summer. But why actually only in the summer? In winter, the region also has a lot to offer. Especially there is the nocturnal sky glow, the northern lights, to mention. It is a dream of many to see this natural phenomenon with their own eyes. But the respect for driving on icy, snow-covered roads is often quite high. And one rarely has any experience of how well one's own motorhome warms up even at temperatures beyond -20°C

Photographer and journalist Dirk Heckmann has spent the last three winters traveling above the Arctic Circle in Finland, Norway, and Sweden for almost two months at a time. For him, the best way to observe the northern lights is to travel by motorhome, because you can react flexibly to the weather conditions and park your motorhome outside the towns - where there is no "light pollution"

His route suggestions list the open campsites above the Arctic Circle as well as info on gas supplies, addresses of husky farms and snowmobile tour providers, and the hotspots for Northern Lights viewing. The reader receives recommendations, how one photographs the fascinating sky lighting successfully, and many further useful Tipps approximately around winter camping in northern Scandinavia. The author also explains what makes a motorhome winterized or winterproof and what accessories are helpful, and gives tips on how to make safe progress on the icy roads.
